The Salt Lake City firm’s new identity reflects an evolution in expression, not a departure from the principles that have defined its work since 1976.
Prescott Muir and Associates, the Salt Lake City architecture practice founded in 1976, has officially become Pathe Studio Architects. The new name reflects an evolution in the firm’s identity and expression while preserving the principles that have guided five decades of civic, cultural, and institutional work across the Mountain West.
The decision reflects a practice that has grown into something larger than any single individual. Pathe represents a studio defined by collective values: experience, restraint, craft, and the emotional intelligence of design. Drawing on ideas of feeling and expression, the name embodies the firm’s core belief that architecture is fundamentally about how a space is encountered and experienced.
“We are carrying forward the discipline, rigor, and care that have always defined the firm. Pathe gives that continuity a new voice,” said Jay Lems, Principal at Pathe Studio Architects.
Since its founding, the firm has built a distinguished portfolio of civic and cultural work throughout the region. Notable projects include the Department of Visual Arts Building at Weber State University, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts and the USTAR Sorensen Molecular Biotechnology Building at the University of Utah, the Weber County Library Headquarters-Southwest Branch, and the restoration of the historic Zions Bank in Vernal, Utah. The practice has earned widespread recognition for work that prioritizes thoughtful resolution, technical rigor, and enduring relevance.
“The new name speaks to something we have always believed: that architecture is ultimately about experience. It is about how a place is felt, inhabited, and remembered,” said Cecilia Uriburu, Principal.
The firm continues to operate from its studio in Salt Lake City, serving clients across the Mountain West. The new identity, including a refined visual system and the pathe.studio web presence, was developed in collaboration with Kley, a brand strategy and design practice. The change to Pathe Studio Architects is effective immediately.
